Meet COURTNEY AHlSTROM CHRISTY

CourtneyChristy

With a discerning eye and an educated mind, Courtney Ahlstrom Christy has always loved visual creativity. Her early passion for drawing and painting along with a love of story evolved into exploring other fields of the art world including becoming an independent scholar and appraiser. Her experiences have enabled her to become a skilled investigator of value in the fine and decorative arts along with its cultural meaning.

Courtney has worked in auction houses, museums, and galleries - all of which have provided great opportunities to closely examine works ranging from the antique to the contemporary. After earning a bachelor’s degree in art history from University College Cork in Ireland, she studied 20th century design at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. She then obtained a master’s degree in the history of decorative arts at Smithsonian Associates / Corcoran College of Art & Design in Washington, D.C. While completing graduate school, Courtney had the honor of being a fellow at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

As a certified member of the International Society of Appraisers, an accredited member of the Appraisers Association of America, and in compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), Courtney is involved in a professional community that always seeks higher standards and ongoing inquiry into how to best value personal property.
